I did this for the first assignment for my RISD Continuing Education Mastering Poster Design class. I took the graphic phrase I made up for Instagram during the Capitol riots and took more time on it to reimagine the imagery. I think both images show the same messages but in different ways. I feel this one makes the message more accessible, combining both pictures and words. I used markers, acrylic paint, and pens to make mine. I decided to use just black, white and red, and combine illustration with words. It comments on how "protests" were described this summer by the media based on the race of the people involved. I wanted to show a parallel. That's why I decided to paint the background of one side black and paint the same font words over it as the other side. Then I couldn't decide what font or color to use for the two races, so I decided to draw the people instead.
HandsI drew these hands for practice using my hand as a model.
Sketchbook Ink DrawingsI drew these using Copic pens. I drew a luna moth and houses we saw on our trip to San Francisco (2020)
MannequinsI drew this during a Drawing 1 class in college. We were looking at mannequins that were posed and arranged, upside down and right side up.
ArmI drew this during a Drawing 1 class in college.
DetroitI drew this for Detroit Day at my high school in 2013. I wanted to emphasize that, unlike the stereotype, Detroit is a vibrant urban city.
CraneI drew this on our Drawing 1 class trip to the Natural history museum.
MapI painted this book box with acrylic and used an ink pen to make the tiny letters. I used metallic paint to make the detailing on the binding and shading to make it seem like there are 3D groves on the side.
India InkI painted this in my sketchbook while messing around with India Ink in my Ink Drawing class through the Ann Arbor Art Center (2020)
ManI drew this during one of the nude model days for my Drawing 1 class.
Harry Potter ShoesI made these for my Sister for Christmas. I used Sharpies on vans and sprayed them with acrylic spray to make them waterproof. These are the second pair of shoes I've made.
